Poyser Takes 5th at State Wrestling Meet

The Wrestling season came to a close this past weekend with Louisville’s lone participant, Lucas Poyser, traveling to Columbus for the State Meet.  Poyser captured fifth place in the 160-pound weight class after defeating Millersburg West Holme’s Marshall Overholt by a 14-5 major decision in the final bout.


Poyser started the tournament strong by pinning Wilmington’s Michael Burge at the 4:37 mark.  However, disaster struck in the quarterfinals as Lexington’s Brad Metz ended Poyser’s chance to win state by a 2-0 decision.

In the consolation bracket, Poyser won a 5-2 decision over Southeast’s Tylor Brokaw and won a 16-1 technical fall against Monroe’s Chris Wilson.


 

Gear Up with Beatty's SportsIn the consolation semifinals the Leopard star re-matched with Minerva’s Scott Boyce.  Poyser won earlier in the year by an 8-3 decision over Boyce.  This time fortunes were reversed and Boyce handed Poyser a 6-5 defeat.   Boyce would go on to claim third place, while Poyser finished 5th.

The NBC Wrestler of the year finished his senior season with a record of 32-3. His only other loss outside of the tournament came earlier this year against the 160-pound champion Issac Jordan of St. Paris Graham Local.
