Perry Strong 1st Half Defense Ends Leopards Winning Streak – Boys Basketball

Louisville Leopards Basketball Net Light Blue Long Sleeve - Beatty's Sports 2017The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team fell to the visiting Perry Panthers 49-43 Saturday Night at Louisville High School. The loss snaps the Leopards 6-game winning streak as they drop to 9-3 on the year.

Cam King scored 10 of his team-high 12 points in the second half to lead the Leopards. Brandon Wahl also scored 7 of his 11 points in the second half and Spencer Hall tallied 6 of his 8 points in the third quarter.

Points came at a premium during the first half. Louisville scored the first 4 points of the game and held Perry off the board until midway through the opening quarter. However, the Panthers used a 12-2 run over the final four minutes to double up the Leopards 12-6 by the end of the first quarter.

Grove Appliance Alliance Ohio AdPerry’s defense continued to hold Louisville off the board in the second quarter. Wahl scored after intercepting an errant pass in the backcourt at the 7:13 mark of the period. Louisville would not score again until Hall grabbed a rebound and scored on a short jumper in the lane with 32 seconds left before half. The Panthers 6:41 of shutout defense propelled Perry to a 19-10 lead at the break.

The scoring picked up in the second half as the two teams played even in the third quarter 12-12. The Leopards managed to outscore the Panthers 21-18 in the final period and continued to stay within striking distance late. But Perry would make 12 of 18 free throws down the stretch to put the game away.

The Panthers Julian Jackson made 13 of 15 shots from the line to finish with a game-high 22. Jagger Haynes also scored 8 and David Wertz added 6.

Perry has now won two straight against Louisville and 14 of the past 16 meetings in the series overall. The Panthers lead the all-time series 31-15 dating back to their first meeting in 1969.
