The Louisville Leopards Football Team competed in the annual Navy-White Intersquad Football Game Thursday Evening at Louisville Leopards Stadium. The White Team scored the lone touchdown to take the scrimmage 7-0.

Roberts Finds Mueller for Lone Score

Jenny Can Cleaning AdNavy rolled the dice on 4th-and-3 from their own 31 on their third possession of the contest, but the result was an incomplete pass. White took over on the short field as a result.

Three plays later, senior quarterback Charlie Roberts rushed for 13 yards to convert a 3rd-and-1 to the Navy 9 yard line. On the next play, Roberts lobbed a jump ball into the endzone and senior wide receiver Chase Mueller hauled the ball in over a defender for a touchdown.

Although he was sporting a Navy uniform, sophomore kicker Seth Colley booted through an uncontested extra point to make it 7-0.

White’s Defense Holds In Redzone

On paper, Navy appeared to dominate the contest in out-gaining the White squad 84-49 in total yardage and nearly doubling them up in rushing yards 78-40 for the game. However, the Navy offense was unable to turn a pair of red zone visits into points.

On the first play of White’s opening possession, junior defensive back Carter Duskey intercepted a pass in the secondary and returned it 8 yards to the White 36 yard line. Navy moved the chains twice and reached the White 7 yard line. However, the next two running plays netted negative 4 yards and Navy eventually faced a 4th-and-goal from the 9. A bad snap on the next play resulted in a 15 yard loss and a turn over on downs.

Ramsey Rushes for 46 Yards on Redzone March

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdAfter Mueller’s touchdown, Navy marched all the way to the White 8 yard line on their next drive. Junior runningback Will Ramsey would finish as the game’s leading rusher netting all 46 yards on two carries during the drive. His 36 yard run from midfield setup Navy with a first down at the White 14. Senior runningback Andrew Essik ran for 6 yards on the next play to the White 8.

On the following play, junior linebacker Braylon Taylor stormed into the backfield for his second sack of the game. Due to the nature of the scrimmage, whistles blew before a tackle was made and before Cruse threw the ball away. The result was a 12 yard loss. Earlier in the game, Cruse had a 70 yard touchdown run that was shortened to a 20 yard run as the coaching staff determined a tackle would have been made at midfield. Thus is the nature of a scrimmage, safety first especially for the quarterback.

A 3rd-and-14 pass attempt fell incomplete in the endzone and a 4th-and-14 throw to the endzone was dropped ending the drive.

Davide Leads White Offense

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdWhite ran two more plays on offense on their final possession and the intersquad scrimmage ended after that. The White Team was led on offense by senior runningback Jacob Davide who carried the ball twice for 30 yards.

Seven plays resulted in lost yardage for the Navy squad as White defenders swarmed to make tackles for losses throughout. In addition to Taylor’s two sacks, senior defensive lineman Nate Curry also recorded a sack.

Meet the Team Cut Short By Stormy Weather

The Meet the Team event was cut short as storms began to blow in following the Navy-White scrimmage. The cheerleaders introduced themselves while the junior varsity scrimmaged a few plays. Lightning was spotted shortly after.

Prior to the Navy-White game, the band performed their pregame routine and introduced each member. Their plan to perform the halftime show following the scrimmage was foiled by the weather.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next host the Canfield Cardinals in their final scrimmage on Thursday, August 11 at 6:00 PM at Louisville Leopards Stadium.
