Grove Appliance Alliance Ohio AdThe Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Soccer Team earned a 3-1 league victory against the visiting Minerva Lions Wednesday Night at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the win, Louisville improves to an even 3-3-1 overall and remains an unbeaten 3-0 in the NBC.

The Leopards captured the lead midway through the first half when Megan Chatelain scored off a long pass from Sydnee Shankel. Louisville would never surrender the lead as their defense stepped up all night even as rain drenched the turf in the second half.

Maddie Berkebile intercepted the Minerva goal kick and headed the ball over to Fankhauser on the play to put Louisville ahead 2-0.

The Lions only score came off a Leopards own goal. Minerva’s Ava Burmon charged in on the play to force the ball toward the net. With the goalie out of the box, the ball rolled into the back of the net before any Louisville defender could save it.

But the Leopard defense held firm to preserve the lead. Finally, the Louisville offense broke through with 3:27 remaining when Destini Adoriso found the game-clinching score off a beautiful cross by Chatelain. Tapanga Smith pushed forth a long lead pass down the center of the field that was booted out by the Minerva goalkeeper. Deana Ross tracked the ball down, dribbled through a pair of Lions defenders, and pushed the ball to the right side of the box to Chatelain. The result was a 3-1 victory.

With that win, Louisville has now defeated Minerva in 6 of their past 7 meetings and is undefeated against the Lions in their last 9 matches overall. The Leopards now lead the all-time series 10-4-1, which includes a 6-1-1 mark at home. Louisville is now unbeaten in their last 13 league matches.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to Carrollton to take on the Warriors on Wednesday, September 20. JV will start at 5:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:00 PM.
