Minerva Lions at Louisville Leopards 1993 Football Highlights
Louisville 27, Minerva 26
Dan Wilson scored on a 26 yard touchdown run with 1:04 remaining and Bob Burick ran in the two-point conversion to lift Louisville past visiting Minerva 27-26 on November 5, 1993.
“I just put my head down and did it. I usually runaround them, this time I ran through them,” Burick said of his game-winning score. “It’s really something to go 10-0 your senior year. There’s nothing that compares to it.”
For Louisville Football, it was their 13th undefeated season in their history and first back-to-back 10-0 season since 1965-66. It was also their 21st consecutive regular season win.
Wilson finished with 27 carries for 161 yards and had touchdown runs of 5, 10, and 26. It was his fake hand-off on the two-point conversion that proved to be the most important as he drew defenders away from the scoring Burick.
“I believe in the kids of Louisville,” Head Coach Rick Crislip said after leading the Leopards to their second straight 10-0 regular season. “I knew they could do it. I also give credit to Minerva. They played their absolutely, positively best game of the season tonight. I knew they’d give us a good game.”
The Lions racked up 364 total yards of offense compared to the Leopards 279. Quarterback Damin Clapper was 8 of 9 passing for 136 yards and 2 touchdowns and Runningback Darren McConnell carried the ball 21 times for 97 yards and 2 scores. Minerva finished the 1993 campaign 4-6, 3-4 and Louisville finished as the Outright NBC Champions at 10-0, 7-0.
