Lingle Blanks Massillon as Louisville Wins 5th Straight – Baseball

My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdThe Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team shutout the visiting Massillon Tigers 8-0 Thursday Evening at the Field of Dreams. Louisville extends their winning streak to 5 with the victory and improves to 12-3 overall.

Cam Lingle pitched a complete game 3-hit shutout and struck out 10 to lead the Leopards. Lingle recorded outs for 8 of the first 9 batters he faced before a 2-out infield single by Luke Murphy broke up his no-hit streak. He had thrown 11 2/3 innings of no-hit ball before that single which included his complete game no-hitter at St. Vincent-St. Mary and two previous relief appearances against Canton McKinley and Canton South.

Lingle retaliated by striking out the next Tiger he faced on three pitches and sent down the next five Massillon hitters in a row. He appeared to gain steam as the game waned on and fanned the final five Massillon batters to complete the shutout.

Lingle also helped his own cause by batting 2-for-3 with a 2-run triple in the fifth and a pair of runs scored. Jonah Harsh also had a multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with a double as 7 different Leopards registered hits in the contest. Davis Burick had the only other extra base hit as he went yard to left field in the bottom of the first to give Louisville an early 1-0 lead that would go unmatched.

Max Hartline added to the Leopards advantage with an RBI single in the second to make it 3-0. Then Dom Mongiardo drove in Hartline two batters later to put LHS ahead 4-0. Mongiardo also capped off the Leopards 4-run fifth inning with an RBI single to center that scored Harsh from second.

UP NEXT: The Louisville Baseball Team will next hit the road to take on the New Philadelphia Quakers in a double header on Saturday, April 20. Varsity will play the Quakers at 11:00 AM and Varsity Blue will follow around 1:00 PM from Tuscora Park. JV will host New Philadelphia for a double header at the same time.
