The Massillon Tigers used a 14-2 second half run to take a 39-32 lead before surviving for a 42-37 victory at Louisville Wednesday evening.  Jordan Monnot and Clara Lemmon led the Lady Leopards with 8 points each in the loss.

Louisville was in command of the contest in the first half in taking a 15-9 lead after the first quarter and a 24-17 advantage at the break.  In the second half, the Tigers held the Beatty's Winter HoodiesLeopards to just 5 made field goals and Louisville failed to connect on any three-point attempts.

Free Throw shooting kept the game low-scoring as Louisville hit just 5 of 12 (42%) and Massillon made 11 of 23 (48%).  The Tigers clanked 8 shots from the charity stride in the fourth quarter to keep Louisville in the contest.

After the Tigers built a 39-32 lead, the Lady Leopards roared back with two clutch free throws by Emily Nees and a basket by Chandler Rice.  Then both teams exchanged free throws to make the score 40-37.  The Tigers failed to connect on either of their next two free throws, which gave the Leopards one last chance to send the game into overtime.  A three-pointer missed its mark anda shot in the key off an inbound pass failed to connect.

Massillon’s Amari Pierce would seal the game for the Tigers with 2 free throws on the other end with 2.7 seconds left.  Pierce would finish with 12 points for the Tigers, Shadrae Stinson also added 10, and Bre Peterson scored a game-high 14 points for Massillon.

Louisville is now 12-7 all-time against Massillon, but the Tigers have now taken 4 of the last 5 in the series.  This game marks the first time the Tigers have won at Louisville since they won on December 8, 1983 by a count of 55-26.  With the loss, Louisville snaps a 4-game winning streak and is now 3-4 in non-conference play.

The Lady Leps will look to reverse Wednesday’s fortunes on Saturday when they travel to West Branch in a pivotal NBC game.
