Louisville 36, Ravenna 22

The Leopards built a 26-0 halftime advantage before rolling to a 36-22 victory over the host Ravenna Ravens Friday Evening. Quarterback Connor Zwick led Louisville with 103 Yards Passing, 59 Yards Rushing, and three touchdowns.

The Leopards spoiled the opening quarter at Portage Community Bank Stadium by scoring three times. Beatty's Sports Leopard Skin Grey HoodieLouisville forced a three-and-out on Ravenna’s first drive which was aided by Cory Neff & Lewis Adkins third down stop in the backfield. After the punt, Louisville drove 54 yards on 8 plays keyed by Walter Schrock’s 27 yard scamper to the Raven 12. The drive ended with Jordan Hughes splitting the uprights on a 29 yard field goal.

Hughes played a factor throughout the entire contest. He would later connect on field goals of 27 and 34 yards. Hughes also eliminated Ravenna’s return game as he put all three of his first quarter kickoffs into the endzone.

On the second Ravens possession, Zach Shea stripped the ball carrier and AJ Minster picked up the fumble and returned it to the Ravenna 8. Four plays later Zwick found the endzone on 4th-and-Goal from the 1.

Louisville’s defense again came up big on Ravenna’s next drive. Dylan Kline & Frankie Falcone combined to bring down the Ravenna Quarterback in the backfield forcing a 3rd-and-Long. Two plays later the Ravens punted and then gave Louisville 15 more yards by interfering on the return. That set up a Zwick to Alex Hollifield touchdown pass on 3rd-and-13 from the 36. Hollifield finished as the Leopards leading receiver with 3 catches for 46 yards.

The second quarter was much of the same story. The Leopards defense halted a Raven drive via a another Adkins & Neff combined sack. Louisville drove 59 yards on 8 plays on the ensuing drive before Zwick scored from 10 yards out. The drive was aided by a Ravenna offsides penalty on a 4th-and-3 from the 19. The Ravens finished the evening with 9 penalties for 75 yards.

The Leopards special teams made a big play late in the second quarter. After a bad snap, Kline & Garrett Yoder charged in on Ravenna’s punter and jarred the ball free. Louisville took over on the Ravenna 14 and four plays later Hughes made it 26-0 with a 27 yard field goal.

The Ravens made things interesting in the second half. Warren Bradley scored three times on runs of 3, 47, and 80 to finish with a total of 19 carries for 185 yards. Demetrius Fear also rushed the ball 13 times for 103 yards in the contest as Ravenna carried the ball 36 times for 269 yards as a team.

As Ravenna was building momentum midway through the third quarter, Shea put an end to it with a 52 yard interception return touchdown. After another defensive stop and a Raven punt that netted 3 yards, Hughes banged home a 34 yard field goal to put Louisville up 36-6 with 2:58 to go in the third.

It wasn’t pretty the rest of the way, but the Leopards hung on for the 36-22 victory. The 3-0 start for the Leps is their first since the DII AP Poll Championship 10-0 Season of 2009. Louisville is now 14-2-2 against the Ravens all-time which includes a 6-2-1 record at Ravenna.
