Thomas Faces the Minimum, Pitches No-Hitter Against Mathews – Softball

Louisville 10, Vienna Mathews 0, 5 Innings

Shae Thomas threw a no-hitter as the Louisville Leopards run-ruled the Vienna Mathews Mustangs 10-0 in five innings Thursday Evening at the South Range Tournament. With their fifth straight victory, Louisville is now 18-3 on the season.

Thomas faced the minimum and struck out 4 to throw her second complete game five inning no-hitter of the season. She retired the side in every inning except the second when she gave up a lead off walk. That baserunner advanced to second after a groundout, but was thrown out by catch Kaycee Ollis during the next at-bat. Sydney McKeever applied the tag out on the pickoff and Thomas struck out the batter to end the inning.

Thomas used the defense behind her to complete the Lady Leopards third no-hitter of the season. She breezed through the third and fourth innings getting 6 batters to ground out on just 12 pitches. Thomas then worked a 1-2-3 fifth inning to seal the run-rule victory and the no-no.

Opposite of Vienna Mathews, Louisville pounded out 15 hits as a team led by McKeever who batted a perfect 4-for-4 with 3 runs scored. Teagan Rice also drove in 6 runs on a pair of 3-run doubles to lead the Leopards at the plate. She cleared the bases to kick start an LHS 6-run second inning. Then wiped the bases clean again an inning later to put Louisville ahead 10-0.

The Leopards wasted no time in jumping ahead of the Mustangs early. McKeever singled to begin the game, stole second, and then came home via a double by Ollis. After Rice’s base clearing double in the second, Ollis singled her home to make it 5-0. Then Sarah Cantley doubled in both Ollis and Kaylee Nolte two batters later to put Louisville up 7-0.

Lauren Bennett and Lexi Zavarelle also both finished with a pair of hits each for the Lady Leopards.

This was the first ever meeting between the two programs.

UP NEXT: The Louisville Leopards Softball Team will next finish their game with the Warren Champion Flashes originally started on March 30.
