Louisville Leopards Vs. Mayfield Wildcats 2007 State Semifinal Football Highlights

The Louisville Leopards erupted for 35 second half points to punch their ticket to the State Championship game for the first time in team history. Louisville defeated the Mayfield Wildcats 41-13 in the DII State Semifinals at Bedford Bearcat Stadium on November 23, 2007.

Marcus Poyser scored on a 9 yard second quarter touchdown run to give the Leopards a 6-0 lead the break.

Louisville wasted no time in extending their advantage at the start of the third quarter. Jon Minster returned the opening second half kick off 88 yards to the house to make it 12-0 Leopards. Then Louisville made their third unanswered endzone trip  when Tyler Jones leaped over defenders to make a 31 yard touchdown grab via Quarterback Neal Seaman. Just like they had a week before against DeSales, the Leopards held a 19-0 lead.

Mayfield answered back with a pair of touchdowns to trim the deficit to 19-13. Quarterback Frankie Ferritto connected with the speedy Ashante Williams for a 61 yard touchdown pass. The pair worked in reverse to setup the Wildcats next score. Ferritto pitched to Williams for what looked to be a run to the right. However, Williams looked back left and fired to Ferritto who was now wide open. The halfback pass was good for 35 yards and put Mayfield in the redzone. A few plays later Williams scored from a yard away.

The gamebreaker came near the end of the third quarter. On the Mayfield 32, Louisville dropped back into punt formation. Only punter Brandon Mathie fired a 32 yard touchdown pass to a wide open Bobby Swigert down the left sideline to put the Leopards up 25-13. Mathie also caught the conversion pass from Seaman to put LHS ahead by 14.

Louisville seized all momentum at that point and the Leopard defense shutout the Wildcats the rest of the way. The offense clicked on all cylinders and a pair of Clay Swigert fourth quarter touchdown runs put the nail in the coffin. Swigert scored from 5 and 80 yards out to make it 41-13 Leopards securing their trip to Week 15 for the first time in team history.
