Louisville Leopards Vs. Lake Blue Streaks 2004 Football Playoff Highlights
Lake 24, Louisville 0
Lake scored three touchdowns in the final quarter to turn a close ball game into a 24-0 convincing victory over Louisville in the DII, Region 7 Semifinals back on November 12, 2004.
Blue Streaks Cornerback Ben Chlebina accounted for 3 of Lake’s 5 takeaways, 2 of which led to Lake fourth quarter touchdowns. Teammate Adam Cambell forced a fumble that Chlebina recovered on the Leopards 44. 7 Plays later Tailback A.J. Workman scored on a 23 yard touchdown run to put the Blue Streaks ahead 10-0 with 9:58 remaining.
After each team traded possessions, the Leopards were forced to begin their next drive from their own 1. That’s when Chlebina blew out the candle on Louisville’s season. He jumped in front of a pass and stepped the remaining two yards for a pick six to put Lake in front 17-0 with 6:04 remaining.
After that, Workman would find the endzone once more from 4 yards away to make the final 24-0. His runs of 19 and 41 also helped produce the Blue Streaks first score of the game via a Steve Menyes 22 yard field goal. Workman would finish with a game-high 159 yards.
Louisville actually out-gained Lake 237-193, but had nothing to show for it on the Fawcett Stadium scoreboard. The Leopards most successful drive of the evening travelled 50 yards to the Blue Streaks 21. However, Louisville was stopped 4th-and-Short and Lake took over with 9:41 left in the second quarter.
Campbell and Josh McCutcheon also intercepted passes for the Blue Streaks. Lake improved to 10-2 on the season, but would fall to eventual State Champion Columbus Brookhaven 35-14 in the next round. The 8th Seeded Leopards finished the season with a 9-3 mark.
