The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the Canfield Cardinals 53-51 in a unique overtime period Friday at Quicken Loans Arena. With the loss, Louisville is now 6-8 on the season.

Erin Hahn poured in 14 of her team-high 17 points in the second half to lead the Lady Leopards. Paige Cole also scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half and overtime while Sherilynn Mullett tacked on 8 for LHS.

My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdHahn scored a game-tying layup at the end of regulation to send the contest into overtime just like the boys game in the session before. However, the overtime period rules were not the same. Due to NBA restrictions prior to the start of the Cleveland Cavaliers game against the Utah Jazz, the extra stanza was shortened to only two minutes and a running clock was enforced.

The Cardinals struck first when Serena Sammarone made a field goal to give Canfield a 52-50 advantage as time ticked away. Canfield fouled Louisville on the other end, but the clock continued to run as they were shooting in the double bonus. The Leopards split the pair and fouled immediately with about 30 seconds to go. Sammarone made the first free throw on the other end and the buzzer sounded ending the game abruptly and giving the Cardinals a 53-51 win.

Sammarone led Canfield with 15 of her game-high 20 points in the second half and overtime. Gianna Flask also made 3 three-pointers to finish with 12 and Grace Mangapora dropped in 9.

The Cardinals have now won 3 straight over the Leopards and lead the all-time series 8-3. This includes a 3-0 mark in games played at neutral location dating back to the 1991 and 1992 Regional Tournament games between the two programs. This is the second time Louisville has played at Quicken Loans Arena. They also lost to St. Joseph Academy 47-39 back on January 27, 2017.
