Leopards Silence Salem, Now 16-0 Against Quakers All-Time – Softball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team earned a 10-4 road win over the Salem Quakers Tuesday Evening at Southeast Elementary School. With the victory, the #4 ranked Leopards improve to 15-1 overall and 6-1 in NBC play.
Shae Thomas finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and an RBI single as part of Louisville’s 4-run first inning. Thomas also pitched a complete game and struck out 4 to improve to 4-0 on the season.
The Leopards scored in each of the first four innings to amass a 9-0 lead and went up 10-0 with the addition of Sydney McKeever’s 2-out RBI infield single in the top of the fifth. McKeever also hit an RBI triple earlier in the third, stole 2 bases, and scored 2 runs.
Lexi Zavarelle also batted 2-for-2 with a double and 2 runs scored. Both Ellie Jackson and Kaycee Ollis drove in a pair of runs as well for Louisville.
The Quakers kept the game alive with 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth. Kline hit a 2-run single and both Thorn and Carner had RBIs as Salem pounded out 3 of their 5 hits in the inning. The Quakers were not able to get any closer than 10-4 as Thomas retired 7 of the final 8 Salem batters she faced.
This was the final meeting between these two schools in NBC competition. The Leopards finish 14-0 in league play against the Quakers since 2012 and lead the all-time series 16-0 overall. Louisville has outscored Salem 206-10 all-time and scored double digits in all but a single game. The Quakers 4-run fifth actually doubled their run total against LHS over the course of the 14 NBC matchups.
