The Panthers pounded all night long out of their Wing T formation in amassing 412 rushing yards on 63 rushing attempts. Perry nearly had three 100 yard rushers in the game spreading the hand-offs between Sha’VeA Lightner, Richard Coleman, and Jarin Curtis. Lightner finished with 14 carries for 121 yards and scored the opening touchdown of the game on a 3 yard run. Coleman also carried the ball 12 times for 119 yards.

Curtis just missed the century mark rushing the ball 19 times for 99 yards, but found the endzone twice in the second half. He reached paydirt on a 3 yard touchdown run with 9:40 left in the third quarter to put the Panthers ahead 17-6. Later Curtis solidify their already commanding lead with a 1 yard touchdown run that capped off a 9 play, 78 yard drive early in the fourth quarter. That made it 29-6 Perry at that point.

The Leopards had their chances throughout the game. On the their second offensive possession Louisville drove 66 yards on the next 8 plays setting up a 1st-and-goal from the 3 yard line. The Leopards would manage just 2 yards on the next three plays against the Panthers brick wall defensive line. On 4th-and-goal from the 1, Curtis shot through a hole in the line and tackled Hartline for a 3 yard loss to end the LHS threat.

Just before halftime, the Louisville defense forced a Perry punt. Defensive End Jason Goard keyed the defensive stop with back-to-back tackles for a loss on second and third down. On the ensuing punt, Hartline returned the kick 68 yards to the Panther 17 which would have put the Leopards into field goal range with 6.2 seconds left before half. However, multiple flags against LHS erased the play.

The ball continued to bounce Perry’s way in the second half. After the Panthers took a 17-6 lead, a high snap was covered by Jones in the endzone for a Perry safety making it 19-6 less than three minutes into the third quarter. Two other promising Louisville scoring drives ended in turnovers. A would be first down reception turned into a fumble when Curtis and Dominic Vinas combined to strip the Leopards ball carrier and Strong Safety Devonte Armstrong scooped up the loose ball and returned it to the PHS 22. Louisville also drove to the Panther 7 early on in the fourth, but faced a 4th-and-2. Perry’s defense swarmed the middle of the field and Curtis picked off the ensuing pass at the 1 yard line.

This was the first meeting between the two schools on the gridiron since 1998. The Panthers have now defeated the Leopards in 10 of their past 11 meetings including the last 6 at Perry Stadium. Perry now leads the all-time series 17-11 which includes an 8-6 mark against Louisville at home. The last Leopards win at Perry Stadium was a 12-7 victory on September 16, 1983. Louisville finishes the season with a 2-2 record against Federal League foes.
