Louisville Leopards at Hoover Vikings 1994 Football Highlights
Louisville 7, North Canton Hoover 0
After falling to Lake 48-33 in a wild 81-point game to end the 1993 season, Louisville opened up the new year at the same Memorial Stadium with a 7-0 hard-hitting win over the host North Canton Hoover Vikings on September 2, 1994.
“This is what we’ve been thinking about since we ended our season here last year,” said Leopards runningback Dan Wilson. “This is what we planned to do, beat Hoover.”
Despite the low-scoring contest, Wilson ran the ball 32 times for 173 yards. He was also the lone player to find the endzone on a 4 yard run that capped off a 10 play, 62 yard drive. Wilson and the offensive line led by Bill Hildebrand were instrumental on the drive.
The turning point of the game came just before half. The Vikings looked to answer the Leopards score with a 10 play, 59 yard drive. With the clock ticking down, Hoover elected to run the ball to the left side from the 3-yard-line. The Louisville defense swarmed the ball carrier in stopping North Canton for no gain. Without a timeout, the Vikings ran out of time and the first half expired.
Prior to that drive, the Leopards defense had held Hoover to no first downs. Louisville continued their defensive dominance in the second half as they continued to shutout North Canton. The Vikings were led by Kevin Wilson who finished with 6 carries for 61 yards.
On offense, Leopards Quarterback Ryan Crislip also finished 6-of-8 passing for 56 yards and ended the night with 12 carries for 60 yards on the ground. Louisville ran out the clock in the fourth quarter after driving to the 3-yard-line as time expired.
