Leopards Double Up the Dukes 8-4 – Baseball
Louisville 8, Dukes 4
The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team doubled up the host Marlington Dukes 8-4 Thursday Evening at “Little Wrigley” Field on the campus of Marlington High School. With the victory, Louisville is now 14-4 overall and 8-0 in the NBC.
Davis Burick batted 3-for-4 with a solo homer, triple, RBI single, and 2 runs scored to lead the Leopards. Bryce Zuppe also batted 2-for-4 and smashed a 3-run triple in the top of the sixth that put Louisville ahead 8-0. Cam King also hit a 2-run single in the fifth inning and Cam Lingle batted 2-for-4 with a double.
On the mound, Andrew Gray improved to 4-0 on the season by throwing 5 2/3 innings, giving up 0 earned runs on 10 hits, and striking out 3. Lingle also pitched 1 1/3 innings in scoreless relief, gave up 1 hit, and struck out 4.
All of Marlington’s 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth were unearned as a Louisville error and a dropped third strike allowed the Dukes to extend the inning longer. David West hit a 2-run double in the inning scoring Brendan Stinson and Nick Mudrick. Two batters earlier, Mudrick singled home CJ Greiner who reached on error to start the frame. Anthony Sabatino also hit a 2-out RBI single scoring West to cut the Louisville lead in half. However, that was as close as the Dukes could get as they fall to 8-4 overall and 5-3 against the NBC.
