The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team fell to the host Jackson Polar Bears 62-56 Saturday Night at Jackson High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to an even 1-1 to start the year.

Colton Jones hit 5 three-pointers and scored all of his team-high 16 points in the first half to lead the Leopards in building a 37-33 halftime advantage. Cam King also made 3 three-pointers hitting double figures with 10.

Seniors Spencer Hall and Jared Mathie also added 9 points a piece for Louisville. Hall also led the team in rebounds with 7 and recorded 2 blocks. Mathie additionally dished out a team leading 5 assists.

The Leopards flew out of a gate scoring the first 10 points of the contest. They remained in the lead at the end of the first two quarters and extended their advantage to double digits at 43-33 with 6:13 left in the third quarter. The Polar Bears rallied with a 15-4 run to close the period and took a slim 48-47 lead into the fourth.

My Fit Life Personal Trainer AdIn the final period, Jackson pulled ahead to 58-52 with 1:05 to go before Louisville’s Collin Chambers nailed a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 58-55 with 48.8 seconds to play. The Polar Bears called a timeout and hit a pair of free throws on each of their next two trips to the line to ice the game.

The Polar Bears (1-0) were led by Anthony Mazzeo who scored 13 of his game-high 21 points in the second half. He and teammate Sean Reed each hit home 3 triples from beyond the arch. Reed also scored double figures with 13 as did Will Hyde who tacked on 11. Hyde led JHS with 8 boards and also had a pair of blocks defensively.

This was the first meeting between the two schools in Boys Varsity Basketball since 1988-89, their final season in the Federal League. Louisville fell at Jackson 69-58 on December 20, 1988 in that previous meeting. The Leopards have not won at JHS since a 69-62 victory on December 22, 1978 and have dropped their past 19 meetings against the Polar Bears overall dating back to their days in the Fed.
