Lady Leopards Bounce Back Big at Claymont 64-39 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Girls Varsity Basketball bounced back from their opening loss Tuesday at Jackson with a convincing victory Wednesday night at Claymont. The Lady Leopards defeated the host Lady Mustangs 64-39 to improve to an even 1-1 on the young season.

Barwick & Miglich Score Team-High 14 Each

Jenny Can Cleaning AdFreshman Courtney Barwick and junior Taryn Miglich each poured in a team-high 14 points to lead Louisville. Barwick cashed in a pair of three-pointers in the opening quarter as the Leopards jumped out to a 22-6 advantage. Miglich dropped in 7 of her 14 points in the second stanza as Louisville pulled ahead 42-15 by halftime. The score was nearly an exact reversal of the halftime tally at Jackson the night before, in which LHS trailed 41-15.

The Mustangs outscored the Leopards 14-11 in the third quarter before Louisville held an 11-10 margin in the final period. LHS iced the game by hitting 5 of 7 fourth quarter free throw attempts. Senior Kelsey Adelman would make 5 of 6 shots from the charity stripe for the night to finish in double digits with 11 points. 

Other top scorers for the Lady Leopards included junior Hailey Gonzalez with 7 points and senior Aubrey Thorne who hit a pair of three-pointers to finish with 6 points.


Eddleman Leads Claymont with Game-High 19

Claymont was led by Bailey Eddleman who connected on 4 three-pointers in the second half to finish with a game-high 19. Emily Grant also scored all 8 of her points in the second quarter to help lead the Lady Mustangs.

This was the first ever meeting between Louisville and Claymont in girls basketball. The Mustangs are the 74th different opponent the Lady Leopards have faced in their history dating back to 1974. Claymont is the only new opponent currently on Louisville’s regular season schedule after they took on nine new foes a season ago.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next host the Chardon Hilltoppers on Saturday, November 27. JV is slated to begin at Noon and varsity will follow around 1:30 PM.
