“This was the closest to four quarters we’ve played,” Louisville Head Coach Paul Farrah said following his teams  33-0 shutout win at Carrollton on a rainy, windy October 4, 2002 night. “All around I’d say it was one of our best football games we’ve played.”

The Leopard Defense dominated the contest in holding the Warriors to 83 yards of offense on 45 plays and forcing 7 turnovers. Marc Zustin had all three interceptions for Louisville including a 39 yard pick six in the second quarter.

“We’ve got 11 guys flying to the football at all times,” Zustin said after recording three interceptions in a game for the second time that season. “The defensive line was putting so much pressure on the quarterback, it made it easy for me to jump on their patterns.”

Mike Clough, Chad Norris, John Sukosd, Matt Thurin, and Kyle Yoder all contributed to the cause on the Beatty's Football Shirt 2015defensive line as the Leopards finished with 13 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 4 stops for no gain. The Warriors managed to pound out just 44 yards on 32 carries in the running game and completed only 3 of 13 passes for 39 yards. They were a big reason why Carrollton failed to enter Louisville territory until midway through the fourth quarter.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Leopards shot out of the gate for three touchdowns in the opening quarter. Curtis Elsass ran for scores of 37 and 5 and Quarterback Gary Whaley hit Nick Vernon for a 25 yard touchdown pass on the final play of the first quarter.

Elsass would go on to finish with 30 rushes for 159 yards. He also caught a 5 yard touchdown pass from Whaley in the third quarter to put Louisville ahead 33-0.

“In our eyes, he’s the best player in the county.” Coach Farrah said of his Senior Runningback who hit the century mark for the 6th time in 7 games. “He’s running in the mud, and he makes it look like it wasn’t muddy. He played a great game.”

Whaley would finished 6-of-10 through the air for 59 yards as the Leopards improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the NBC.

“Some people wondered if there would be a letdown,” Coach Farrah said. “But they have only one motor, and that’s in high gear.”
