Lady Leopards Drop NBC Game at Canton South 63-57 – Girls Basketball

Louisville Leopards Women's Long Sleeved Jacket - Beatty's Sports Fall 2017The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the host Canton South Wildcats 63-57 Saturday Night at the new Canton South High School. With the loss, Louisville falls to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Erin Hahn finished with team-highs of 16 points and 7 rebounds to go along with 4 steals to lead the Lady Leopards. Hanna Lautzenheiser also scored 12 points, tied Hahn with a team-leading 7 rebounds, and recorded a team-high 5 steals for Louisville. Other leaders for the Leopards included Kayla Gibson with 9 points and 4 assists, and Ellie Jackson who had 8 points, a team-high 5 assists, and 4 steals.

Canton South outscored Louisville 10-8 in the first quarter and 18-16 in the second quarter to take a 28-24 lead at halftime. The Leopards made up that deficit in the third quarter and sent the game into the final period knotted at 43-43. The Lady Wildcats used a 20-14 fourth quarter to prevail in the end.

Grove Appliance Alliance Ohio AdLouisville out-rebounded Canton South 28-21 and led in total steals 21-9. However, the Wildcats shot 46% (22 of 47) from the field while the Leopards shot 37% (23 of 61) from the floor. Canton South also held a distinct advantage from the charity stride shooting 56% (18 of 32) compared to Louisville’s 40% (9 of 22) performance from the line.

The Lady Wildcats (3-2, 1-2) were led by Brooke Noll who finished with a game-high 20 points, a game-high 8 rebounds, and a team-high 4 assists. Megan Mitchell also tallied 17 points and had 5 rebounds. Alex Brown also had 9 points and team-highs of 5 steals and 4 assists.

Canton South Head Coach Jim Gotshall notched his 100th win with the victory. Gotshall, who was previously the Lady Leopards JV Coach and Middle School Coach, was also the Varsity Head Coach of the North Canton Hoover Vikings during the 1990’s.

The loss snaps the Leopards 6-game winning streak against the Wildcats. Louisville still leads the all-time head-to-head series 64-25, which includes a 28-14 mark in games played at Canton South.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to Massillon to take on the Tigers on Monday, December 11. JV will begin at 6:00 PM and Varsity will follow around 7:30 PM from Washington High School.
