The Louisville Leopards Varsity Wrestling Team earned a convincing 46-21 road victory against the Canfield Cardinals Wednesday Night at Canfield High School. With the win, Louisville remains unbeaten on the year in dual matches with a record of 7-0.
The Leopards never trailed during the match in capturing 9 of the 14 matchups which included 6 victories by fall. Jax Leonard (170) and Brent Paulus (195) won by pin and Blake Robbins (220) defeated Chris Smith by 4-1 decision to give Louisville an early 15-3 advantage.
The Cardinals answered with back-to-back pins by Rich Hofus (285) and Ty Stricko (106) to tie the match at 15-all. Hofus’ pin came with only one tick remaining in the third period to swing additional points Canfield’s way.
The two squads traded victories in the next two matchups. The Division II #5 ranked Dominic Hoffarth edged out Division II #2 ranked Nick Barber 7-6 in the 113 match to put the Leopards back in front 18-15. But Ethan Fletcher would shutout Dan Adams 5-0 to earn a Cardinal decision in the 120 match to knot the score back up.
Louisville broke the 18-18 tie with three straight pins and wins in 5 of the final 6 matches. Defending state champions Garett Lautzenheiser (126) and Davin Rhoads (132) both won by fall in the first period to begin the Leopard run. Carter Mickley (138) followed with a third period pin and two matches later Dan Kennedy (152) pinned his opponent in the first period as well. Brenden Severs (160) further solidify the LHS victory with an 8-0 major decision in the final match as Louisville prevailed 46-21.
Other Canfield wins included Anthony D’Alesio (182) by 10-3 decision and McCoy Watkins (145) by 5-4 decision.
