Slow Start Costs Louisville at Canfield 59-43 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball team fell on the road against the host Canfield Cardinals 59-43 Wednesday Evening. Louisville now has an even record of 4-4 following the result.
Sherilynn Mullett recorded team-highs with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals to lead the Lady Leopards. Erin Hahn also scored 9 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and had 4 steals. Other top contributors for LHS included Kayla Gibson with 8 points and Paige Cole with 2 steals.
The Cardinals held the Leopards scoreless from the field during the first quarter in shooting out to a 16-1 lead at the end of the first. Louisville cut into the deficit by winning the second quarter 19-13, but still trailed by 29-20 at the break. CHS outscored outscored LHS 17-9 in the third before the Leopards edged the Cardinals 14-13 in the final period.
Canfield was led by Mangapora who made 4 of 6 three-pointers and finished with a game-high 28 points. Sammarone also had 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Flask also hit double figures with 10 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Cardinals outshot the Leopards 48% (23 of 47) to 31% (16 of 51) from the floor which included a 42% (6 of 14) to 10% (1 of 10) advantage from beyond the arch. Canfield also doubled up Louisville in rebounds 34-17 which included a 24-10 distinction on the defensive glass.
The Cardinals have now taken 5 of their last 7 games against the Leopards. Louisville trails the all-time series 3-7 which includes a 1-3 record in games played at Canfield. Wednesday’s score was very simliar to their previous meeting exactly 8 months before last season at Louisville. The Cardinals won that matchup 59-42 on February 12, 2018.
