Leopards Fall Late in Fourth at Boardman 7-6 – Boys Lacrosse
Boardman 7, Louisville 6
Matt Swigert and Tyler Shadle led the Leopards with two goals each. Boardman scored the first 3 goals of the contest before Swigert got Louisville on the board with 1:04 left in the opening quarter. Swigert scored the Leopards only other goal of the first half with 1:10 to play before halftime to cut the deficit to 4-2 at the break.
Shadle found the net in the third quarter to trim the lead to 4-3, but the Spartans AJ Barber got it back to put Boardman ahead by two goals heading in the fourth quarter. Shadle scored just 13 seconds into the final period to make it 5-4 and Jared Mathie scored less the four minutes later to tie the game at 5-5.
In a wild sequence, two more goals were scored by each team in the 34 seconds following Mathie’s score. Mark Filicky added a goal for the Spartans with 7:28 left and Bryce Rebuck answered right back at the 7:20 mark for the Leopards.
In the end, Boardman’s Alexander Wood recorded a hat trick on what proved to be the game winning score with three minutes to play. The Spartans escaped with the victory after surrendering first half leads of 3-0 and 4-1.
Egan Hare and Dominick Barber also had first quarter goals for Boardman.
