Louisville Hangs Tough, But Falls to Jackson in Sectional Final

The 12th Seeded Louisville Leopards fell to the host top-seeded Jackson Polar Bears 6-3 in the DI Canton Sectional Finals Friday Night. With the win, the Polar Bears advanced to play Wooster in the District Semifinals on Monday, May 19 at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium. With the loss, the Leopards fall to 8-13.

Alex Hollifield led Louisville by batting 3-for-4 and scoring a run. Stephen Kerzan also hit a double Beatty's Sports Spring 2014 Baseball Shirt 2and Jake Adams tallied the only Leopards RBI on a sacrifice groundout in the seventh scoring Jordan Hughes.

Jackson ripped open the game with a 4-run second inning which gave them a 5-0 advantage. Tim Turner cracked 2-run homer over the right field fence to lead the Polar Bear charge. Turner also struck out 4 on the mound and earned the victory. Jake Sima also finished with 2 hits for Jackson.

The Leopards notched a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Connor Zwick & Hollifield singled aboard to begin the rally. Then Kerzan smashed a ball to the shortstop who booted it into the outfield allowing Zwick to score. Adams also reached base via an error on the second baseman and this allowed Hollifield to come home.

Louisville will conclude the season with a series against West Branch. They will play in Beliot Saturday, May 17 at 12:00 PM and be home for Senior Night against the Warriors on Thursday, May 22 at 4:30 PM.

UP NEXT: The Leopards will next travel to West Branch to take on the Warriors on Saturday, May 17 at 12:00 PM. JV will host Marlington in a Double Header at the same time.
