Gross Hits 1000 Points, Siegfried Breaks Assist Record as Leopards Win Big at Northwest – Boys Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team demolished the host Northwest Indians 79-54 Tuesday night at Northwest High School. Louisville has now won 10 of its last 11 games, improving to 15-5 on the season.

Gross Scores Game-High 21, Hits 1000 Career Points
Brayden Gross scored 13 of his game-high 21 points in the second half to lead the Leopards. He would hit 7 of 14 shots from the free throw line with his final made free throw marking the 1,000th point of his varsity career.
Gross is the seventh Leopard to score 1,000 career points and the fifth to do so under Head Coach Tom Siegfried. Gross also passed Michael Brown (987 Points – 2007-2010) for seventh on the Louisville career scoring list earlier in the game.
Siegfried Breaks Louisville Career Assists Record
Beau Siegfried directed the Leopard offense with 15 points and 6 assists. His first assist of the night was the 408th of his career setting a new Louisville basketball record. The previous record was held by Kyle Radcliff (1993-1996) who amassed 407 career assists.
Siegfried buried two of his three triples in the fourth quarter as the Leopards knocked down 10 threes as a team. Siegfried also finished with 4 steals on defense to go along with 3 rebounds.
Bailey and Marshall both Finish in Double Figures
Devin Bailey and Ashton Marshall both finished in double figures for Louisville. Marshall made 2 three-pointers and tallied 14 points. Bailey cashed in on 3 three-pointers and registered 11 points.
Avery Andrejcik’s three-pointer capped a 9-0 Leopard run to close the first quarter, giving Louisville a 15-9 lead entering the second. Seven points by Marshall in the second quarter allowed the Leopards to extend their advantage to 28-19 at halftime.
Tate Aljancic scored all 5 of his points in the third quarter. Louisville matched its halftime total in the third quarter, erupting for 28 points to extend the lead to 56-32 heading into the final stanza. Caleb Mayle led the Leopards with 7 points in the fourth quarter as Louisville edged Northwest 23-22 over the final eight minutes. Brandon Sanders and Austin Wade also added 2 points each in the fourth quarter.
Hyrne and Pennington Score Team-High 12 for Indians
Caleb Hyrne and Tristan Pennington each scored a team-high 12 points to lead the Indians. Hyrne hit a pair of three-pointers as Northwest canned 4 three-pointers as a team. Pennington scored a field goal in every quarter.
Other top scorers for the Indians included Chase Badger with 9 and Tyler Pappas with 8. Logan Allman and Carsen Nickey each tacked on 4, Parker Kraft scored 3 points in the fourth quarter, and Landen Cross rounded out the Northwest scoring with a fourth quarter bucket as well.
The Pac-7 Champion Indians had won 7 consecutive games coming into the evening, but walk away with a 15-5 record. Northwest will look to run the table in the Principals Athletic Conference when they host Canton South Friday. They will then host the Carrollton Warriors, who are currently tied with Alliance for first in the Eastern Buckeye Conference, on Saturday to conclude the regular season.
Louisville Vs. Northwest Basketball Rivalry
The Leopards have now defeated the Indians in each of their past four meetings, including the last two matchups played in Canal Fulton. Louisville now leads the all-time series 35-13, which includes a 16-9 mark in games played at Northwest.
Head Coach Tom Siegfried is now 11-4 against the Indians since taking the helm in 2007-08. His first tournament coaching victory came in a 67-56 win over Northwest to kick off the 2008 postseason.
#4 Louisville and #10 Northwest are the two highest seeds in the Division III, Northwest 6 District Tournament and look to be on a collision course for a rematch. If they both take care of business, they will meet in the district championship game on March 1 held at North Royalton’s Herman L. Joy Gymnasium.
