Louisville Wins at New Philadelphia 5-1 in Regular Season Finale – Baseball

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Baseball Team defeated the host New Philadelphia Quakers 5-1 Friday Night at Tuscora Park. With the victory, Louisville guarantees themselves a winning season as they finish the regular season with a mark of 14-12.
Pickens and Brahler Strike Out 10 in 1-Hit Effort
Senior pitchers Broc Pickens and Tony Brahler combined for a 1-hitter on the mound to lead the Leopards. Pickens pitched a no-hitter through the first 3 2/3 innings, surrendered 1 unearned run, and struck out 5 in earning his first career varsity victory on the hill.
Brahler pitched the final 3 1/3 innings in scoreless relief to earn his team best third save of the season. He retired 10 of the 11 Quaker hitters he faced overall.
Brahler came into the game with 2 runners on and 2 outs in the fourth inning. He got out of the jam and then proceeded to retired the side in the fifth inning.
New Philadelphia first baseman Gage Brown broke up the combined no-hitter by leading off the bottom of the sixth with a line drive single to left field. Brahler responded by fanning 5 of the final 6 Quaker batters he faced including striking out the side in the seventh inning.
Leopard Steal Two Runs to Take the Lead
Louisville lit up the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Junior right fielder Zack Seaman reached base via a bunt single to third. He then stole both second and third before scoring on a passed ball dropped third strike.
The batter, junior shortstop JT Popick, reached base on the play and then advanced to second on a throwing error by the catcher. He then swiped third base for his 15th steal of the season. Popick then came home when sophomore center fielder Charlie Roberts reached on a bunt single to first base.
Roberts followed suit in stealing both second and third to up his stolen base total to a team best 20 on the season. The next two Louisville batters were retired leaving Roberts stranded on third to keep the score at 2-0 in favor of LHS.
The Leopards recorded 6 steals for the game, 5 of which came in the top of the third alone.
New Philadelphia Cuts Louisville Lead in Half
New Philadelphia produced a run in the bottom of the fourth to chop the Louisville lead in half. Right fielder Connor Shimek drew a 4-pitch walk and then stole second base. With two outs, designated hitter Mason Ricklic reached on an error allowing Shimek to score from second.
Seaman 2-Run Double Highlights 3-Run 7th
Louisville tacked on 3 insurance runs in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded, Seaman doubled on a line drive to right field scoring sophomore second baseman Connor Morley from third and junior third baseman Caleb Miller from second. The 2-run double put the Leopards in command 4-1.
Junior left fielder Connor Adelman advanced to third on the double and then scored on a passed ball two at-bats later to put LHS ahead 5-1.
