Stoffer Scores Two Touchdowns in Opening Half

Gorgas Street Horror 2025 AdQuarterback Gabe Stoffer accounted for 178 yards of offense and scored the Leopards only two touchdowns in the opening half. Stoffer finished 9 of 13 for 140 yards through the air and ran the ball 16 times for 38 yards on the ground.

On Louisville’s first scoring drive, Stoffer hit Anderson Kandel over the middle of the field for a 37-yard first down reception to move the chains on 3rd-and-6. Stoffer then ran right, sprung by a block from Colton Dougherty, for a gain of 14 yards on the next play. Stoffer then capped off the 8-play, 74-yard scoring drive with a 1-yard quarterback draw running behind a big block from Aden Norris. Parker Daum booted home the extra point to put the Leopards in front 7-0 with 10:56 remaining in the second quarter.

Another third down pass play sparked the Leopards’ next scoring drive. Stoffer lofted a pass over the defense to sophomore tight end Jake Baker who angled toward the left sideline and stiff-armed a defender before being pulled out of bounds at the Green 9 yard line. The 52-yard reception converted a 3rd-and-5, flipped the field, and setup Louisville with goal-to-go. The Leopards capitalized four plays later when Stoffer ran through a hole, paved by Baker and running back Owen DiMarzios, for a 2-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal. Daum’s extra point split the uprights again to put Louisville ahead 14-7 with 4:21 left before halftime.

Seaman Interception Sets Up Leopards with Short Field

On the ensuing possession, defensive end Jakeb Beard penetrated the backfield and nearly had Green quarterback Tyson Hunka wrapped up for his second sack of the game. Instead, Hunka threw the ball up for grabs into heavy traffic and Louisville defensive back Luke Seaman intercepted. Seaman returned the ball 16 yards to the Bulldogs 21-yard line setting up the Leopards in prime field position.

A Game of Inches

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdThey say football is a “game of inches” and that couldn’t be more true at Green Friday. Louisville faced a 4th-and-2 from the Bulldog 13 and elected to go for it out of a timeout. Stoffer ran right, but linebacker Kaden Worner penetrated into the backfield to get an initial hit on Stoffer. It was enough to allow the rest of the defense to close in on Stoffer for only a short gain.

The referees brought out the chains and the ball ended up being a chainlink or two short of the line to gain. Green took over on downs at their own 11 with 1:25 left before halftime.

Another few inches and the Leopards would have extended the drive. With a touchdown or a field goal, they would have been up by two scores at halftime or even if they failed to score they would have taken a 14-7 lead into the half.

Hunka Leads Bulldog Comeback

Corey Street for Mayor AdInstead, the Bulldogs marched right down the field on a 5 play, 89-yard scoring drive that only look 62 seconds. Quarterback Tyson Hunka and running back Evan Reed both carried for first downs to start the drive. Two plays later, Hunka avoided pressure in the pocket and rolled out to his right. He then heaved a pass deep down field to Reed for a 54-yard touchdown pass. Placekicker Nick Wygle added the extra point and just like that Green tied the game at 14-14 with 23 seconds remaining before break.

Hunka was clutch all night long on late downs. Earlier in the second quarter, he broke loose for a 38-yard touchdown run on a 4th-and-5 play. Later in the third quarter, Hunka put the Bulldogs in front 20-14 with a 4th-and-3 touchdown pass to Kaden Worner with 4:05 left in the third quarter.

Green Puts Game Away with 17-Play Scoring Drive

Vote for Issue 37 - School Levy AdThe Leopards’ next drive stalled around midfield. Louisville was looking to convert a 4th-and-1, but a false start pushed the Leopards back, so they punted.

Green got the ball back on their own 13 yard line following the punt. The Bulldogs responded by marching the 87 yards on 17 plays while consuming 7:23 off the game clock. Green converted 5-of-5 third downs on the drive including a 3rd-and-9 for an 18-yard Hunka to Reed touchdown reception with just 4:49 left in the contest.

Hunka would finish 6 of 15 passing for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Reed was the only Bulldog with multiple receptions and accounted for 72 yards receiving.

Worner Interception Ends Final Louisville Drive

Stoffer found Burick and Seaman for first down completions to begin the next drive. But it would end Kam Worner intercepting a pass at the Bulldog 36 giving the ball back to Green with 4:21 remaining.

Reed closed it out from there with a pair of 3rd-and-2 first down runs. Reed carried the ball 18 times for 112 yards, while Hunka finished with 29 carries for 129 yards.
