The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell in a low-scoring defensive battle against the host Canton South Wildcats Wednesday night at Canton South High School. With the loss, Louisville drops to 0-2 on the season.

Lady Leopards Rally to Take Late Lead

West Main Vet Clinic AdMikayla Salmons scored 4 of her 6 points in the opening quarter as the Lady Leopards took a 6-3 lead at the end of eight minutes. The Lady Wildcats answered with an 8-2 second quarter run to go ahead 11-8 at halftime.

The Lady Leopards trailed 20-13 entering the fourth quarter, but stormed back with an 11-1 run to take the lead

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdElla Tillett scored 4 of her team-high 8 points in the final stanza to lead Louisville. Maggie Baker also hit the Lady Leopards’ only three-pointer of the game to complete the comeback and give Louisville a 22-21 lead with 2:51 remaining.

Mabel Kiko scored all 4 of her points in the final quarter as well, including hitting a pair of free throws to give Louisville a 24-21 advantage with 2:19 left.


Wildcats Finish on 6-0 Run to Win

Canton South scored the last six points of the contest over the final two minutes to reclaim the lead and secure the win. Amylah Hastings-Peterson scored all of her 4 points from the field as part of the run. Aniyah Hall also added a key basket during the final stretch to finish with a game-high 12 points.

The Wildcats would shut out the Leopards the rest of the way to preserve the 27-24 victory.

Annie Bourquin also hit a three-pointer and Claire Howard also finished with 3 points to round out Canton South’s other top scorers. Reagan McDonald and Aubrey Taylor also added baskets earlier in the game, and Brayla Nache Torrence split a pair of free throws for the first Wildcat point of the fourth quarter.


First Louisville Vs. Canton South Meeting Post-NBC

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdThis was the first meeting between Louisville and Canton South in girls basketball since their final meeting in Northeastern Buckeye Conference play in 2018. The Lady Leopards had won 14 of their last 16 matchups with the Wildcats coming into the contest, including that 2018 game, a 57-50 victory.

Louisville still leads the all-time series 65-26 overall, which includes a 28-15 record in games played at Canton South in the series. The 91 meetings with the Wildcats is the second most for any Lady Leopard opponent, fonly behind Marlington.

JV: Louisville 25, Canton South 20

The Louisville Leopards JV Girls Basketball Team earned its first victory of the season with a 25-20 victory over the host Canton South Wildcats Wednesday evening. With the victory, Louisville JV is now 1-1 on the season.

Kloey Rukavina scored all of her team-high 7 points in the first half as the Lady Leopards opened a 17-6 lead at the break. The Wildcats trimmed the deficit to 20-14 at the end of three quarters, but Louisville never surrendered its lead in prevailing 25-20.

Makenna Haugen scored 3 of her 6 points in the second half. Other top scorers for the Lady Leopards included Bailey Cole with 4 and Natalia Tonnous with 3. Also getting on the board for Louisville were Gianna Pederzolli and Kylin Thorn with 2 points each and Taryn Germany who added a free throw.

Canton South was anchored by Reagan McDonald who scored a game-high 11 and Annie Bourquin who added the Lady Cats’ other 9 points.
