Lady Leopards Come Up Short at Canton McKinley 45-40 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team fell to the host Canton McKinley Bulldogs 45-40 Monday Night at Canton Memorial Fieldhouse. With the loss, Louisville is now 3-5 on the season.

Barwick and Tillett Finish in Double Figures for Leopards
Courtney Barwick and Ella Tillett both finished in double figures to lead the Lady Leopards. Barwick scored 7 of her team high 11 points in the fourth quarter as Louisville trimmed a 15-point deficit down to just 5 by the final buzzer. Tillett’s scoring was more spread out as she scored in each quarter en route to totaling 10 for the evening.
Six different Louisville players scored in the game. Maggie Baker scored 8 and Mabel Kiko tallied 5. Both Ezela Manko and Karis Miglich rounded out the LHS scoring with 3 points a piece.
The Lady Leopards led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter, but McKinley outscored Louisville 17-6 in the second quarter to take a 27-17 halftime lead. The Lady Bulldogs would continue to increase their advantage in the third quarter pulling ahead 39-24. The Lady Leopards rallied in the fourth quarter outscoring Canton McKinley 16-6, but it would not be enough to erase the disadvantage from the first three quarters.
Taylor Leads Bulldogs with Game High 16
Mya Taylor scored 9 of her game high 16 points in the first half as the Lady Bulldogs roared to a double digit advantage by halftime. K’Lynn Carter also reached double figures with 10 for McKinley.
Other top scorers for the Bulldogs included Ka’Myah Gisentaner with 8 and Sha’Rayla Hall with 5. Sa’Nyah Gammon and Justice Morgan also added 3 points each.
McKinley now holds a 6-5 winning mark on the season with the victory.
Louisville Vs. McKinley Girls Basketball Series
Louisville has now lost their last 8 straight matchups played at Canton McKinley. The Lady Leopards last road win over the Lady Bulldogs came in a 53-34 victory back on December 21, 1991.
Louisville has now lost 13 of their last 14 meetings with Canton McKinley overall. The Lady Leopards are now 5-23 against the Bulldogs all-time, which includes a 1-14 record when playing at Canton McKinley in the series. Louisville defeated McKinley 55-49 in overtime last season.
