Louisville Succumbs to Boardman Second Half Comeback 10-9 – Girls Lacrosse

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team fell to the host Boardman Spartans 10-9 Saturday Afternoon at Spartan Stadium. With the loss, Louisville drops to 3-8 to the season.

Bricker Records 1st Quarter Hat Trick for LHS
Sarah Bricker scored three consecutive goals in a span of 61 seconds to put the Lady Leopards ahead 6-1. Her first quarter hat trick propelled Louisville to a 7-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Fiver different Lady Leopards would score in the opening period as LHS hit on all cylinders early on. Others hitting their mark included Brooklyn Essik, Cheyanne Franklin, Emily Harter, and Kloey Rukavina.
Essik Adds a Pair of Goals for Leopards
The scoring fest slowed down in the second quarter until Brynn Evans notched a goal with 3:50 left before halftime to make it 8-2 Louisville. Boardman would cut the lead to 8-4 by halftime and get to within 8-5 early on the second half.
Essik scored her second goal of the game with 7:03 remaining in the third quarter to increase the Lady Leopards lead to 9-5. Louisville would not find the back of the net again.
Gaps and Austin Lead Spartan Comeback
Ava Gaps recorded the first of three hat tricks for Boardman. She scored the last goal of the first half and first goal of the second half. Gaps hat trick goal came at the 6:02 mark of the third quarter.
Cassie Austin scored 3 of her 4 goals in the second half to complete the Spartan comeback. Earlier she scored the opening goal of the contest to give Boardman the early lead before Louisville took command. She later hit on back-to-back goals to end the third quarter which got the Spartans to within 9-8 heading into the fourth.
Neither team scored again until Austin scored the game-tying goal with 2:48 remaining in the game to make it 9-9.
Hoysack Scores Game Winner and Hat Trick
Valerie Hoysack scored the go-ahead goal for Boardman less than a minute later. The goal was her third of the game giving her a hat trick and more importantly putting the Spartans in front 10-9 with 1:48 left to play.
Boardman’s defense shut down Louisville the rest of the way to preserve their victory. The Spartans defense held the Leopards scoreless over the final 21:03 of action, which proved key to their comeback.
Louisville Vs. Boardman Girls Lacrosse Series
This was the Spartans first victory over the Leopards in the series between the two teams. Louisville is now 5-1 against Boardman all-time, which includes a 3-1 record when playing at BHS.
