Leopards Outclaw Falcons in Defensive Battle 38-34 – Girls Basketball

The Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball Team earned a 38-34 road win over the host Austintown Fitch Falcons Saturday at Austintown Fitch High School. The victory snapped the Lady Leopards’ three-game skid, improving their record to 5-9 on the season
Barwick Pours in Game-High 21 to Lead Lady Leopards
Courtney Barwick scored 18 of her game-high 21 points in the second half to lead Louisville. The Leopards trailed 12-10 at halftime and fell behind by as much as 18-12 midway through the third quarter. Louisville ended the third quarter on a 12-2 run, capped by Barwick’s buzzer-beater three-pointer that put the Lady Leopards ahead 24-20 heading into the final quarter.
Barwick scored 9 in the third quarter and added 9 more points in the fourth quarter. She iced the victory by sinking 7 of 8 free throws, as LHS hit 8 of 10 in the final period to preserve their 4-point lead.
Barwick also finished with 6 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Tillett Records 7 Blocks in Debut as Starter
Ella Tillett only registered 2 points in the scoring column, but the Lady Falcons felt her defensive presence throughout the contest.” Tillett registered 7 blocks on defense to go along with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. In a low-scoring 4-point affair, her effort made a big difference in the final outcome for Louisville.
Regan Biery also shined even without scoring any points. Six of her team-best 7 rebounds came on the defensive glass. Biery also matched Tillett with a team-leading 2 assists and added a block.
Baker Shines on Both Ends
Maggie Baker was also an integral part of the Lady Leopards second half comeback. She contributed 5 of her 9 points during Louisville’s 12-2 third-quarter run. This included 1 of her 2 three-pointers on the afternoon that gave the Lady Leopards their first advantage in the second half at 21-20 in the final minute of the third quarter.
Baker also recorded a team-best 4 steals on defense to go along with 5 rebounds.
Other scorers for Louisville included Karis Miglich with 4 and Ezela Manko who added 2.
Spalding Scores Team-High 14 for Lady Falcons
Rachel Spalding scored all of her team-high 14 points in the final three quarters of action to lead Austintown Fitch. She hit a pair of three-pointers and converted 6 of 10 attempts from the free throw line.
Kaelyn Bower and Samantha Severn both added 7 for the Lady Falcons. Amira Harris also scored all 4 of her points in the fourth quarter and Jeweliana Farmer also added a basket in the final period.
Austintown Fitch has now lost 7 straight and now sits at 6-9 on the season.
Louisville Remains Undefeated Vs. Austintown Fitch
The Lady Leopards are now 3-0 against the Lady Falcons all-time with this being their first trip to Austintown Fitch in the series. Louisville defeated Austintown Fitch 57-33 at home last season and 55-27 at LHS in 2021.
