Aviators Build Early Advantage
Alliance opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Brady White and DiAngelo Fisk hit back-to-back singles to open the frame. Then Lincoln Reese walked to load the bases. The Aviators plated their first run on a sacrifice fly by Charlie Ekey that brought home White.
Ben Craig was hit by a pitch to re-load the bases, advancing Fisk to third. Just one pitch later, Fisk scored on a wild pitch to put Alliance ahead 2-0.
Neither team would score again until the bottom of the fifth when the Aviators added to their advantage. White walked to lead off the inning, stole second, and advanced to third on a groundout. Bo Davis singled to center on the next pitch and White scored his second run of the evening, making it 3-0 Alliance. White would finish 2-for-2 with a double and two steals to lead the Aviators on offense.
Reese doubled in the next at-bat to put runners on second and third with just one out. However, Brock Leghart came out of the bullpen to retire the next two batters without further damage.
Johnson Drives In Rice for Leopards Lone Run
The Leopards answered back in the top of the sixth inning. Cooper Rice belted a one-out triple to center field and then came home on a groundout to short by Bryce Johnson to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Louisville brought the tying run to the plate in both the sixth and seventh innings, but could not capitalize.
The Leopards were out-hit by the Aviators 7-4 for the game. Tate Aljancic, Caden Kortis, and Kolton Loy all registered singles for the Leopards.
Fisk Earns Win in Complete Game Effort
Fisk kept the Leopards’ lineup in check throughout the contest, allowing just four hits and one earned run while striking out two and walking three across seven innings. He faced 28 batters and threw 93 pitches to earn the complete game win.
Fisk also helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-for-3.
Leopards Pitching Staff Limits Damage
Blake Johnson started on the mound for Louisville and took the loss, surrendering two runs on three hits and striking out one in two innings of work. Caleb Mayle pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief, allowing one run on three hits and striking out a pair. Leghart closed the game with 1 2/3 scoreless innings of work, yielding just one hit.
Louisville Baseball Tournament History
The Leopards have now dropped three of their last four tournament games and their last five road tournament games. Louisville’s last road tournament win came in a 4-3 victory at Perry in 2014.
The Leopards are now 54-53 in the postseason since 1972, which includes a 7-11 mark on the road during that span.
