The Louisville Leopards Boys Varsity Basketball Team fell on the road to the host Akron Garfield Golden Rams 43-39 Monday night at Garfield Community Learning Center. With the loss, Louisville falls to an even mark of 3-3 on the season.

Rogers Scores Game-High 13 to Lead Leopards

West Main Vet Clinic AdCohen Rogers scored 11 of his game-high 13 points in the second half to lead the Leopards. Rogers made 3 three-pointers, including two in the fourth quarter, as Louisville tried to rally back late.

The Leopards trailed 11-8 after one and the Golden Rams extended their lead to 21-12 by halftime. Louisville outscored Garfield 18-14 in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 35-30 heading into the final stanza. The Leopards edged the Golden Rams 9-8 in the final quarter, but Garfield would bury 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch to put the game away.


Balcomb and Wilson Add 9 Points Each

Cayden Balcomb and Drake Wilson each added 9 points and 3 assists for Louisville. Wilson recorded a game-high 6 steals on defense and was also the Leopards’ leading rebounder with 5. Balcomb also amassed 3 rebounds and a steal.

Brandon Sanders tacked on 6 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Gabe Stoffer rounded out Louisville’s scoring another first quarter bucket. 

The Leopards out-rebounded the Golden Rams 17-14 for the contest. Colton Dougherty also had 3 boards, and both Colten Norris and Cody Zahler pulled down 2 rebounds each.

Louisville edged Garfield 45% (15 of 33) to 43% (15 of 35) in terms of field goal percentage. However, the Rams made 10 of 18 (56%) free throw attempts compared to the Leopards converting 3 of 4 (75%) free throws, which proved to be the difference.


Hamilton Scores Game-High 13 to Lead Golden Rams

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdRayShawn Hamilton scored 8 of his game-high 13 points in the second half to lead Akron Garfield. Hamilton scored in every quarter and also registered a team-high 5 steals.

Avanti Caldwell and Reggie Edwards scored 8 points each. Caldwell tallied 4 steals and a team-best 3 assists. Edwards made a pair of three-pointers.

Makai Law and Quentin Tyler added 5 points each. Terion Chapman rounded out the Golden Rams’ scoring with 4 points to go along with a game-high 8 rebounds and a block.

Akron Garfield has now ripped off 5 straight since falling at North Canton Hoover 57-48 on December 6. They improve to 7-1 on the year with the win.


Louisville Vs. Akron Garfield Boys Basketball Series

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdThis was the Golden Rams’ first-ever victory over the Leopards. Louisville is now 3-1 against Akron Garfield since their first meeting during the 2022-23 season. This was the first time the Leopards went on the road in the series.

Louisville defeated Akron Garfield at home in each of the past two seasons. The Leopards also bested the Golden Rams 70-53 in the Jimmy Gooden Classic played at Akron Springfield in 2022.
