Leopards Smash South, But Miss Postseason

Louisville 41, Canton South 14

The Louisville Leopards Varsity Football Team downed the visiting Canton South Wildcats 41-14 on Beatty's Blue Louisville Leopards HoodieSenior Night Friday at Louisville Leopards Stadium. With the win, Louisville finishes 7-3 overall and 6-1 in the NBC. The Leopards narrowly missed the postseason to 8th Seed Akron East when the final rankings were calculated.

Quarterback Brody Hahn finished 14 of 20 for 322 yards and had 5 touchdowns through the air to lead the Leopards. He also finished with 10 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

After connecting with Tyler Adams for monster numbers a week ago at Salem, Hahn hit three different http://www.facebook.com/JenniferLBolyard/receivers for touchdowns against Canton South. Max Hartline had a huge night catching 5 passes for 152 yards and a pair of scores. Hartline turned a short pass into a 68 yard touchdown reception on the first play of Louisville’s second drive.

Receivers Jack Davis and Logan Thomas each had breakout games as well. Thomas made 5 catches for 69 yards and caught a 33 yard score in the third quarter that made it 34-0. Davis had 3 catches for 95 yards and caught touchdown passes from 37 and 41 yards away. His first quarter touchdown grab came on a 4th-and-12 play.

Defensive Back Corey White tipped a pass high into the air and managed to come down with it for the Leopards only takeaway on defense. Louisville’s only other takeaway came on special teams during their only punt of the first half. Gavin Birone recovered what was ruled a muff punt on the Canton South 35 to set up their third touchdown drive of the opening quarter.

The Leopards out-gained the Wildcats in total yardage 459-273 which included a stunning 322-6 edge in passing. Louisville held Canton South to just one pass completion in 10 attempts.

The Wildcats did find success on the ground with 267 yards on 46 carries. J.C. Phillippi finished as Canton South’s leading rusher with 10 carries for 110 yards including a 57 yard fourth quarter run. Dajohn Ezell also ran in a touchdown from 4 yards out earlier in the period on a 4th-and-2 play.

The Leopards were led on the ground by Runningback Gavin VanZant who finished with 9 carries for 68 yards.

With the victory, Louisville has now defeated Canton South in 4 straight meetings as well as 8 of the last 9 overall. The Leopards now lead the all-time series 53-18-3, which includes a 28-8-1 record in games played at Louisville.
