Leopards Eliminated from Football Playoffs

Around 5:48 PM Sunday, the much trusted JoeEitel.com released the computer point rankings for each Ohio High School Football region.  His unofficial, but almost always accurate, rankings confirmed a statement already released by Leopard Nation around 2 AM Saturday morning:

“Found an error in my Canfield calculation. Canfield will finish ahead of Louisville, which means unofficially Louisville is eliminated.”  –Leopard Nation Twitter

Joe Eitel’s calculation have Louisville in 12th place in Region 5 with 12.9444 computer points.  The Leopards have the highest amount of points of any eliminated team in the region and only 11 teams in the Region remain alive.

Louisville was switched from Region 7 to Region 5 by the OHSAA in the offseason.  If Louisville were still in Region 7, then they would currently be in the 8th spot and projected to play Columbus Marion-Franklin in an opening round rematch of their 2009 playoff loss.

This will mark the first time that Louisville has missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons since 1997-98.  The Leps had actually missed the playoffs five years in a row at that point, a feat that will hopefully not be repeated.

Playoffs or not, Louisville and Canton South will meet Friday.  A winning season is on the line, for the Leps as well as pride in beating an old Federal League foe.
