Leopards Earn Walk-Off Win Against Salem 4-3
FULL VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
Louisville 4, Salem 3
Mike Kelly reached on an error in the bottom of the seventh bringing home Connor Ruffier for the game-winning run in giving Louisville a 4-3 NBC win over Salem. Alex Hollifield also went 2-for-2 with an inside-the-park home run and a diving catch defensively to lead the Leps.
On the mound, Joey Duckworth picked up his third victory of the season by going all seven innings, striking out 5, and allowing just 4 hits. Duckworth held a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Alex Brant singled to center for Salem.
Louisville did most of their damage in the fourth inning. Riley Groves singled to left field before stealing second base. Then Hollifield ripped a pitch to right-center just out of the reach of the sprinting right fielder. The ball rolled all the way to the wall allowing Groves to walk home and Hollifield to score standing up after an error.
The Leopards did not stop there. Duckworth blasted a double into the same gap and then Kyle White singled him home to put Louisville up 3-0 after four innings.
Leopard errors allowed the Quakers to score two runs in the sixth inning. However, the Leopards rebounded with a Pavin Parks to Kelly double play that helped stop the rallying Quakers who left a runner stranded on third. A two-out single by Salem’s Brendan Webb in the seventh scored Jon Fortey to tie the game at 3-3 before the Leopards won the game in the bottom of the inning.
The 4-3 victory leaves the Leopards 11-6 overall and 7-2 in the NBC. Salem remains a winless 0-9 in NBC play and is 1-16 overall. The two teams will rematch at Salem on Thursday.
