The Louisville Leopards defeated the visiting Lake Blue Streaks 44-30 on Alumni Night Thursday at Louisville High School. With the victory, Louisville remains unbeaten at 3-0 in dual matches for the season.

Lake Takes Lead After Seesaw Start

Jenny Can Cleaning AdThe Leopards and Blue Streaks exchanged victories back-and-forth through first five matchups of the night. Louisville junior Lacy Harvey (ranked #9 in DII) opened up the evening with a 10-3 decision in 106 over Lake freshman Greyson Clemens (ranked #15 in DI). Sophomore Holden Clemens (ranked #20 in DI) gave the Blue Streaks their first lead with an overtime pin of Leopard junior Connor Novosel in the 113 bout.

Louisville sophomore Kolten Barker (ranked #8 113 in DII) wrestled up a weight class and wasted no time in answering back with a 57 second pin of senior Dominic Artman (ranked #23 in DI). Lake again matched the Leopards with a pin of their own at 126. Blue Streaks junior Gavin Greathouse (ranked #21 in DI) won by fall against freshman Brayden Long in the second period. Long was filling in for junior Dylan Rhoads (ranked #7 in DII) who was unavailable due to sickness. The pin put Lake in front 12-9 four matches in.


Castro and Hoffarth Register Back-to-Back Pins

The two teams exchanged victories for the fifth straight bout when Louisville senior Pablo Castro (ranked #1 in DII) pinned junior Dakota Whitacre. Leopard junior Dominic Hoffarth (ranked #2 in DII) followed with a second straight second period pin of junior Anthony Greeno. The result of the fifth straight match to end by fall was a 21-12 Louisville lead.


Lake Recaptures Lead 24-21

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdThe Blue Streaks won the next three bouts to retake the lead. At 144, senior Chase Abdul earned a hard fought 7-2 decision against Leopard senior Josiah Walker. Junior Maddox Harris followed with a pin of freshman Wyatt Smith at 150 to knot the dual at 21-21.

At 157, Lake sophomore Josh Jordan (ranked #15 150 in DI) wrestled up a weight class and shutout Louisville junior Jude Yeager with a 4-0 decision. The result put the Blue Streaks back in front 24-21.


Leopards Tally 17 Straight Points to Clinch Win

Lingenhoel Group - Arden and Lisa Lingenhoel - Cutler Real Estate AdLeopard senior Brenden Severs (ranked #7 in DII) was surgical in his 17-1 technical fall victory over junior Kyle Casperson at 165. The result gave Louisville a 26-24 advantage, which they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Leopard senior Noah Peterson (ranked #11 in DII) followed with a second period pin of Xander Carson at 175 to give Louisville a 32-24 cushion. The Blue Streaks elected to forfeit at 190 rather than at 215 with nationally ranked senior Blake Schaffer (ranked #2 in DII) awaiting. The forfeit sealed the victory for the Leopards from a team perspective as they led 38-24 with two bouts remaining.

Lake junior Aidan Ball wrestled up a weight class to 215 and pinned Louisville sophomore Will Ramsey in the second period. Ramsey recently joined the team and was making his wrestling debut. In the heavyweight match, Leopard senior Cameron Brazek (ranked #7 in DII) pinned Blue Streaks sophomore Anthony Miller a little over midway through the third period to close the night. 


Rhoads Presented State Title Ring

Prior to Thursday’s dual meet with Lake, Louisville graduate Davin Rhoads was presented with his 2021 state championship ring by Head Coach Rocky Laughlin. Rhoads won his second state championship last season at 138 pounds in Division II, becoming the only Leopard to ever win multiple individual state titles.
