Lady Leps Tie Stark County HR Record During Sweep of GlenOak

VIDEO:

GAME 1:

Louisville 12, GlenOak 1, 5 Innings

The Lady Leopards offense blasted GlenOak from start to finish, and pitcher Gianna Falcone held the Golden Eagles to a single run during a 12-1 victory.

Just like the game at Lake, Louisville opened up the first game of a doubleheader with four runs before a single out was recorded.  Chandler Rice did not crack a grand slam this time, instead the Lady Leps took advantage of several wild pitches to move around the basepaths.  Brittany Flanigan, Emily Isla, and Desi Givens all hit singles to start the contest and each one scored in the opening inning.  Rice, who followed Givens with a walk, also scored in the first.  Shelby Swigert and Jordan Monnot had singles in the inning as well.

The four runs Louisville compiled in the opening inning would be more than enough, because Falcone pitched a five inning complete game.  She only gave up a single run in the fifth inning, while striking out four for the game.

Louisville padded their lead even more in the second inning when Swigert singled home Givens.  Later on in the third inning Ashley Horton smacked a triple to left field and then came home when Kyleigh Zwick hit a sacrifice fly.

Louisville ensured a shortened game when they batted around the lineup for a 6-run fifth inning.  The scoring started when Horton hit a bloop single to left-center that brought home Monnot.  Then, a basehit by Zwick and a walk to Flanigan loaded the bases.  After that, Isla hit a grounder through the second baseman’s legs to bring both Horton and Zwick.

Finally, Givens cleared the bases by clocking a three-run home run over the left field fence.  The home run was Givens’ seventh of the season and it was the Lady Leps nineteenth home run of the season, which ties the Stark County record that East Canton set last year for most team home runs in one season.

The most amazing part of the Lady Leps fifth inning was that every run was scored with two outs.  Due to the double-digit advantage at the end of the fifth, the game ended with Louisville winning 12-1.

GAME 2:

Louisville 4, GlenOak 2

The Lady Leopards were shutout for six of the seven innings played in game two, but a 4-run third inning proved to be enough to capture a 4-2 win over GlenOak. Zwick reached base on an error to start the rally.  Flanigan then followed with a single and Emily Isla got on first on a fielder’s choice.  Zwick was thrown out at third on the play, but back-to-back doubles by Givens and Rice brought in three runs.  Then Rice used some tricky baserunning moves to steal third base, before stealing home on a wild pitch.  4-0 Leopards.

In the circle, Flanigan pitched a complete game and struck out nine in picking up her thirteenth victory of the season.  GlenOak took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning and McNew hit a home run in the sixth, but other than that the Golden Eagles’ bats were baffled by Louisville’s star pitcher.

With the win, Louisville goes to 20-1 on the season and remains an undefeated 9-0 against the Federal League.
