Lady Leps Ripped Off in Final Coaches Poll

Apparently a 24-2 season doesn’t mean anything to the poll voters.  The previously #2 ranked Louisville Leopards fell out of the top ten in the final Ohio High School Fast Pitch Softball Coaches Association Poll, while two Stark County foes remain.

Louisville went 2-1 vs. #5 Perry this year, who currently has a record of 17-6.  North Canton on the other hand is 22-3 and ranked #6 behind Perry.  The Vikings fell to the Lady Leps in the regular season 3-2, but they beat Perry 6-2 during the regular season.  So how can Perry be ahead of Hoover?

Louisville still has a better record than both teams and although North Canton is understandable at 22-3, Perry has 6 losses.  Yes, they beat us when it counts and they were the better team Saturday.  They deserve all the credit in coming through at the right time, but they have SIX losses.  If Perry goes on to win state they will still have two less wins than Louisville and a .786 win percentage compared to Louisville’s .923.

The pollsters continue to defy logic and seem to have written off the entire season and based their votes purely on the state playoffs.  What makes the AP football poll great is that it ends before the playoffs begin and tends to show the best teams in the state throughout the season, rather then just at the end.  Anyone can get upset on any night, but to say a team that wins 92% of their games shouldn’t be in the top ten is ridiculous.  Louisville has a better record than Perry and Hoover, is undefeated against Hoover, and is 2-1 vs. Perry.  However, a 2-0 District Semifinal loss to Perry after the game was postponed several days to a warm Saturday afternoon is enough to knock Louisville out of the top ten.  Enough said, your poll is absurd and no longer has credibility.
