Salem Quakers Vs. Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Basketball 1-25-2012

FULL VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS

Louisville 57, Salem 42

Louisville busted out of the locker room to take a 33-7 lead before cruising to a 57-42 victory at John A. Cabas Gymnasium in Salem Wednesday night.  Molly Brown led all 12 Louisville scorers with 8 points, while Brianna Libertore and Hannah Lemmon each added 8.

Cross your fingers…now the road trip is over…knock on wood.  While West Branch and Marlington duked it out in neighboring Beloit, the Leopards needed no superstitions and wasted no time in doing their part to stay atop the NBC at Salem.  Seven different Louisville players scored from the field in the opening stanza to help the Lady Leopards take a 24-6 advantage.

Louisville’s defense was led by Mackenzie Storlie’s 4 steals, one of which led to a buzzer beating layup by Chandler Rice as the first period expired.  As a team, the Leps held Salem to just 11 points in the first half.

Louisville continued to build upon their lead which grew to as much as 48-14 midway through the third quarter.  A sloppy final 12 minutes allowed the Quakers to make the score more favorable for the Salem faithful, but the Leps had taken care of business long before and cruised to a 15-point victory.

Hannah Lemmon also led the Leps with 7 boards off the bench as Louisville out-rebounded Salem 28-15 for the contest.  The win evens the all-time series between Louisville and Salem at 5-5.

With West Branch beating Marlington 56-47 at Beloit, the Leopards now sit tied with just the Warriors for the top NBC spot.  But the Lady Leps have business to take care of before the rematch with West Branch, including Carrollton at home this Saturday and a trip to Marlington next week.
