Lady Leps Clinch NBC Outright, Soliday Pitches No-Hitter in JV

VIDEO:

Louisville 2, Alliance 0

Brittany Flanigan struck out 12 batters and only surrendered 2 hits in a complete game shutout of the Alliance Aviators Wednesday evening.  Chandler Rice hit two doubles and drove in the game winning RBI in the sixth inning as Louisville defeated Alliance 2-0 to capture the NBC crown outright.

Flanigan caught five of her strikeout victims watching strike three en route to her fourteenth win of the year.  In the first and third innings Alliance had runners on second and third, but Louisville refused to let them cross the plate.  In the other five innings, Flanigan retired the side.

Alliance pitcher Marissa Bondoni was equally impressive through the first five innings only allowing a single hit to Rice to lead-off the second.

Her troubles began in the sixth though, as Louisville once again worked some late-inning magic on offense.  With one out, Emily Isla singled to center field.  Then Desi Givens drew a walk after working the count full.  Then Rice pounded a double off the right-center field fence that narrowly score Isla from second.  Shelby Swigert then hit a shallow sacrifice fly to center field that easily scored Givens because the throw zoomed over the catcher’s head.

A 1-2-3 seventh inning clinched a Northeastern Buckeye Conference title for the Lady Leopards for the second time in as many years.  The conference title is Louisville’s fourth in team history and 118th total league title in the history of all sports at Louisville High School.

JV REPORT:

Louisville 12, Alliance 0, 5 Innings

Katie Soliday pitched a five inning no-hitter en route to a 12-0 victory for the Lady Leopards Junior Varsity squad Wednesday evening.  Soliday retired the first 11 hitters she faced before giving up a walk in the fourth inning.  In the fifth inning an error allowed a baserunner, but Soliday followed that up with three straight strikeouts.  Soliday had 8 strikeouts for the game.

On offense, the Leopards were shutout through the first two innings but broke through for five runs in the third and seven runs in the fourth inning to build a lead good enough for a 12-0 mercying.  The JV squad is now 16-2 on the year, falling only to Hoover and splitting a doubleheader with Perry.
