Lady Leopards Sweep Blue Streaks on the Road

Louisville 25-25-25, Lake 14-23-22

The Louisville Lady Leopards defeated the host Lake Blue Streaks in three straight sets Thursday evening 25-14, 25-23, 25-22. With the victory, Louisville improves to 1-1 on the young season.

Emily Hollfiield led the Leopards with 9 kills on offense and 5 blocks on defense. Leaders for Louisville also included Kayla Cole as the top server with 12 points and 1 ace, Rachel Mathie with 12 digs, and Haley Shadle with 30 Assists.

After the Blue Streaks jumped out to a 7-4 advantage in the first set, the Leopards answered back with an 11-1 run to go up 15-8. Louisville eventually won the opening set 25-14.

The second set proved to be a rollercoaster ride for both squads. The Leopards cruised to a 16-10 Beatty's Sports Yellow Long Sleeved Shirtadvantage, but the Lady Streaks scored six straight points to knot the game at 16-16. Capturing the momentum, Lake pulled ahead 22-19 and Louisville Head Coach Jodie Cress called a timeout. The Lady Leopards stormed out of the break by scoring the final six points of the set. Hollifield led the charge with multiple blocks and a powerful throw-down of the set-winning point.

In the third set, Louisville jumped out to a 13-7 advantage. However, just like in the previous set Lake went on a 6-0 run to tie the game at 13-13. The two squads went back-and-forth before the Leopards used a 4-0 run to go ahead 20-16. The run included kills by Hollifield, Cole, and an ace from Mathie. The Blue Streaks got to within 23-22, but the Lady Leps prevailed when “The Closer” Hollifield through the hammer down to end the match with an exclamation point. She recorded the game-winning kill in all three sets.

The victory by Louisville marks the first time either team won consecutive games in the series. The two squads had gone back-and-forth, exchanging victories in the previous six matches before Thursday. Despite the even series overall, the Leopards have won 4 out of the last 5 at Lake.

UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next open up NBC Play at home when they take on the West Branch Warriors on Tuesday, August 26. JV will begin at 5:00 PM and Varsity will follow at 6:00 PM. Freshman Volleyball will travel to West Branch on Monday, August 25 at 5:00 PM.

JV: Louisville 25-25, Lake 22-16

The Louisville Lady Leopards Junior Varsity Volleyball team defeated the host Lake Blue Streaks 25-22, 25-16 Thursday Evening. With the victory, Louisville is now 2-0 on the year.

The Leopards came out of the gate strong led by the serving of Outside Hitter Abbey Berkshire who served up several aces. Louisville took a 12-1 advantage, but Lake rallied back. The Blue Streaks used a 7-0 run to cut the Leopards lead to 24-22, but Louisville survived by watching a Lake spike sail deep on the next point.

The Leopards and Blue Streaks went back and forth to open the second set playing to an 8-8 tie. Then Louisville used a 6-1 run to pull ahead and never looked back.
