Lady Leopards Suffer 1st NBC Loss in New Gym

Salem 25-25-25, Louisville 12-20-20

The Louisville Lady Leopards fell to the visiting Salem Lady Quakers 12-25, 20-25, 20-25 Tuesday evening at LHS. With the loss, Louisville falls to 9-8 overall and 6-3 in the NBC.

The turning point in the contest came in the second set. The Lady Leopards took a 7-0 advantage at the Beatty's Sports Leopard Skin Grey Hoodiebeginning of the set much to the delight of a wild Louisville student section. The Quakers called a timeout and not long after tied the game at 10 a piece. Salem would go on to win the set 25-20 before taking the match in three games.

Grace Jackson was the match’s top server as she recorded 14 points and 3 aces. Jackson also recorded 10 digs on the defensive side to go along with Emily Hollifield’s team-leading 3 blocks. Kristen Bricker provided a team-high 16 assists and Megan Stocker was the game’s top hitter with 11 kills.

The Lady Quakers defense was the difference in the game and it was led by Maria Shivers game-high 7 blocks. Also recording game-high’s were Sarah Smith with 14 digs and Carson Harron with 31 assists. Salem’s top server was Camrin Costal with 8 points & 3 aces and Kacey Costal was their top hitter with 10 kills. The Quakers are now 11-4 overall and 8-2 in NBC play leaving them a game back of Carrollton who defeated West Branch in four sets Tuesday.

For Louisville, it is their first league loss at home since the LHS gym was renovated. The Lady Leopards were 7-0 last year and started out 4-0 in the NBC this year before falling Tuesday. Louisville’s last home league loss came at LMS against the Minerva Lions back on October 13, 2011.
