Marlington Dukes at Louisville Leopards Softball Highlights 2013

The Louisville Lady Leopards finished the regular season with a bang in downing the visiting Marlington Dukes 16-0 in 5 Innings Friday. With the victory, Louisville became the first NBC team to complete undefeated 14-0 runs in back-to-back seasons. The Leopards have now won 38 consecutive conference games.

Chandler Rice led the offense by going 3-for-4 with a triple, 2 doubles, 5 RBI’s, and 3 runs scored. Following her in the lineup was Annie Woolf who went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI singles. Grace Jackson also provided a 2-run single in the second and a 2-run homer in the fourth inning. Katie Cozy and Shelby Swigert each pounded out 3 hits as well for Louisville.

In the circle, Gianna Falcone joined Brittany Flanigan (2010) as the only pitchers in Lady Leopards softball history to go 14-0 through the NBC. Falcone struck out 2 in three innings of work, while Angela Godwin closed out the game by pitching 2 scoreless innings and striking out one. Each pitcher allowed just one hit each.

With the victory Louisville has now defeated Marlington 8 straight times, but still trails in the all-time series to the Dukes 24-27. Louisville is now 22-4 overall and outscored their opponents 57-4 this week. They will look to carry that momentum into Tuesday when they play Jackson in the Massillon District Semifinals at 4:30.
