North Canton 15, Louisville 8

Vikings quarterback  Kyle Braucher scored the go-ahead touchdown with 3:40 remaining in the fourth quarter that helped North Canton defeat Louisville in JV Football 15-8 on a sweltering Saturday morning at Louisville Leopards Stadium.  The only Leopard points came from back-to-back receptions by wide receiver Kyle Woost from Quarterback Pavin Parks.

North Canton got on the board first when Vikings linebacker Joe Howard returned an interception for a touchdown inside the Leopards own redzone.

Louisville would answer with a drive that featured Parks hooking up with Woost three times including the 11 yard score.  In addition to that, Parks found Woost Beatty's Sports 2012 Football Shirtagain for the two point conversion to give Louisville an 8-7 lead with 2:25 left in the first quarter.  The combo also converted a 3rd-and-7 earlier in the drive and would combine for seven total completions for the game.

The Leopards looked to add to their lead in the second quarter as Parks found Woost and AJ Minster for four completions that journeyed them all the way to the Hoover 10 yard line.  Minster had at least 6 catches for the game.  However, the drive ended when Hoover linebacker Tyler Howell picked off a pass in the endzone on a 4th-and-6.

Louisville had another opportunity to pad their lead late in the third quarter.  On a 4th-and-11 from the 21, the Leopards drew a pass interference call to set them up with a 1st-and-10 from the Hoover 11.  But on the very next play a fumbled snap resulted in a turnover when North Canton’s Chris Neal fell on it.

Later, the Vikings game winning drive was keyed by a 30 yard scramble by Braucher to the Leopards 12.  Two plays later, Zach Shea sacked Braucher for the second time in the contest pining North Canton back to the 18 yard line.  However, on 3rd-and-16, Braucher broke a potential sack and ran for 15 yards to all but gain the yardage needed.  On 4th-and-1, runningback Sy Hatcher moved the pile for a first down and then Braucher scored on the very next carry to make it 13-8 Hoover.  Braucher then found wide receiver Zach Johnson for the two point conversion.

Louisville’s chance for a rally was snubbed out at midfield when linebacker A.J. Davis deflected a pass to fellow linebacker Clay Hayerfield who made a circus interception at midfield.  After a three-and-out, Louisville got the ball back with 12 seconds and needed 78 yards for the endzone.  Louisville flipped the field in the remaining seconds as Parks connected with Bryce Mathie three times for 56 yards.  Bryce Mathie also had an interception earlier in the contest.  However, on the final play Mathie’s hook and lateral to Jake Mathie fell 18 yards short of the goal line to seal the deal for the Vikings.

The Leopards never gave up, but fell to 1-1 on the season.  They will open up NBC play at Canton South next Saturday.
