Leopards Shutout #1 Ranked Jackson, 1st Win Over Polar Bears Since 2008 – Baseball

The Louisville Leopards ramped up for districts by hosting the Division I #1 ranked Jackson Polar Bears at Andy Aljancic Field Friday Evening. Louisville earned their first win over Jackson since 2008 in a stunning 3-0 shutout of the top seed in the DI Canton District. With the victory, LHS clinches their third straight 20 win season as they now hold a record of 20-8.
Tyler Jackson pitched a complete game 4-hit shutout and struck out 2 to lead the Leopards. He sent Jackson’s lineup down in order in the first, third, and fifth innings. The Polar Bears had runners in scoring position in each of the even numbered innings, but Jackson worked out of the jam in each to keep JHS at bay. Jackson, the LHS pitcher no the high school, improved to 2-3 on the year with the victory.
Bryce Zuppe led Louisville at the plate going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles that were manufactured into the Leopards first two runs of the game. Zuppe came home when Davis Burick hit a grounder to short with no outs in the bottom of the first. Later in the third, it was Burick again driving Zuppe home on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 LHS.
Louisville also added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Austin Cummings bunted and reached on an error allowing Max Hartline to score from third. Cam Lingle and Broc Pickens had the only other hits for the Leopards in the game.
Jackson (23-3) had won the previous 8 matchups between the two schools. The Leopards last win over the Polar Bears before Friday was a 13-4 victory in the second game of a double header at Jackson on April 12, 2008. Louisville had not won a home game against the Polar Bears since a 6-5 win on April 23, 2007 prior to the contest. The Leopards have never shutout Jackson according to Leopard Nation Baseball records dating back to around 1975.
