West Main Vet Clinic AdThe Louisville Leopards Girls Varsity Softball Team fell to the visiting Howland Tigers 5-3 Wednesday evening in their season opener at West Main Vet Clinic Field.

Gionino's Pizzeria Oakwood - Mobile AdLouisville Varsity Leopards stayed in it until the end, but Howland pulled away late in a 5-3 victory on Wednesday. Howland were down 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning when Newbraegh doubled, scoring three runs.

Howland got on the board in the second inning after VanNess doubled, scoring one run.

Howland added one run in the third after Newbraegh lined out.

Louisville Varsity Leopards jumped into the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Maggie Baker was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Taylor Schneider singled, scoring two runs.

Katelynn Miller took the loss for Louisville Varsity Leopards. The hurler went seven innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits, striking out nine and walking two. Perry started in the circle for Howland. The hurler allowed seven hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

My Fit Life Personal Trainer Side AdSchneider, the number nine hitter for Louisville Varsity Leopards, led the way with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Miller went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Louisville Varsity Leopards in hits.

Newbraegh led Howland with three runs batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. VanNess and Schmitz each collected two hits for Howland.

Louisville Varsity Leopards will travel to Washington for their next game on Thursday.
