Rodriguez Breaks Scoreless Tie in Second Half
After neither team found the net during the opening 40 minutes, Louisville finally broke through with 27:09 remaining in the second half.
The opportunity began when Haile Folk played a ball ahead to Reese Riley, whose attempt was deflected away by the Howland goalkeeper to generate a corner kick.
Folk delivered the ensuing corner from the left side into the goal box. The Tigers goalkeeper knocked the service away, but Rodriguez was there for the rebound and drove it into the left side of the net to put Louisville ahead 1-0.
The goal was Rodriguez’s fourth of the season and ultimately stood as the game-winner as the Lady Leopard defense protected the one-goal advantage the rest of the way.
Edgein Records 20th Career Shutout
One goal was all Louisville needed thanks to another outstanding performance from Edgein and the Leopard back line.
Edgein stopped both Howland shots on goal to record her sixth shutout of the season and the 20th clean sheet of her varsity career.
That moves Edgein within six of former Louisville goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan, who holds the program benchmark with 26 career shutouts from 2019-22.
The clean sheet was also a complete defensive effort. Olivia Barthel, Carolina Bell, Sophia Malave, and Avery Mann helped lock down the Tigers and protect Louisville’s one-goal advantage throughout the night.
Howland was unable to find an equalizer as the Lady Leopards secured their seventh conference victory without a loss.
Louisville Takes All-Time Series Lead Over Howland
Monday marked just the third all-time meeting between Louisville and Howland.
The Tigers won the inaugural matchup 1-0 at Louisville in 2025, but the Lady Leopards have answered with consecutive victories this season. Louisville won 3-1 at Lombardo Field on September 16 before returning home to blank Howland 1-0 Monday.
Louisville now leads the all-time series 2-1, has outscored Howland 4-2, and is 2-0 against the Tigers in AAC competition.
Monday’s victory was also Louisville’s first home win over Howland.
The loss ends the Tigers four-game winning streak as they drop to 8-5-1 overall and to 5-2-1 in the AAC.

Lady Leopards Close In on AAC Championship
Louisville enters the final stretch of conference play in complete control of its championship destiny.
Following Monday’s games, the Lady Leopards stand 7-0 in the AAC. Canfield’s 7-0 victory over Warren G. Harding moves the Cardinals to 5-1-1, while Howland falls to 5-2-1.
Louisville next faces Austintown Fitch on Wednesday, while Canfield and Howland will meet for the second time this season after playing to a 2-2 draw on September 21.
Assuming the AAC championship is determined by the winning percentage displayed in the MaxPreps conference standings, here are the scenarios:
- Louisville beats Fitch and Canfield loses to Howland: Louisville clinches the outright AAC championship Wednesday.
- Louisville defeats Canfield on October 10: Louisville clinches the outright championship, regardless of its other remaining results.
- Louisville wins any two of its final three AAC games: Louisville clinches the outright title, regardless of Canfield’s results.
That makes Wednesday’s slate potentially significant, but Louisville does not need outside help. Two more conference victories guarantee the Lady Leopards the outright AAC crown.
UP NEXT: The Louisville Leopards Girls Soccer Team will next travel to take on the Austintown Fitch Falcons on Wednesday, October 7. Game time is set for 6:30 PM from Greenwood Chevrolet Falcon Stadium.
