Warner Records Hat Trick to Lead Louisville
Mason Warner scored a hat trick to pace the Louisville offense. Warner’s first goal came off an assist from Keegan Coy in the opening quarter to put the Leopards ahead 2-0, and he added another Coy-assisted score in the second quarter to restore Louisville’s lead at 3-2. Warner completed his hat trick in the third quarter off a feed from Parker Daum to extend the Leopard advantage to 4-2.
Dillyn Decost also scored for Louisville, opening the game with an unassisted goal at the 9:24 mark of the first quarter. Daeton Gerig added the Leopards’ final goal in the fourth quarter off a second assist from Daum to give Louisville a 5-3 lead with 8:18 left in the contest.
Ontko’s 5 Goals Fuel Holy Name Comeback
Louisville took control early by scoring the first two goals of the game in the opening quarter. Holy Name knotted the game in the second quarter when Thomas Ontko scored back-to-back unassisted goals just seven seconds apart to even the score at 2-2.
After each team scored early in the final stanza, Ontko struck again with 6:26 left in the fourth by taking the ball from behind the cage and slipping in front for a goal to cut the Louisville lead to 5-4.
Ontko then tied the game with 30 seconds remaining, spinning through defenders off a stoppage to make it 5-5. Just 26 seconds later, he delivered the game-winner by taking the ball from midfield off another restart and working his way in for the deciding score with just four seconds left. The score was his fifth of the contest.
Xavier Rodriguez also scored for the Green Wave in the fourth quarter off an assist from Noah Wallace.
The victory improved Holy Name to 13-1, and the Green Wave have now won two straight since suffering their only defeat of the season against Padua Franciscan 13-3 earlier in the week on May 5.
Holy Name Takes Early Edge in Series
The win gave Holy Name a 2-0 lead in the all-time boys lacrosse series between the two schools. The Leopards were blanked by the Green Wave 8-0 on the road in last season’s first meeting.
