Harris Blanks GlenOak, Softball Advances to Districts
Louisville 1, GlenOak 0
The #6 Seed Louisville Leopards Varsity Softball Team blanked the host #3 Seed GlenOak Golden Eagles 1-0 in Tuesday’s DI Massillon Sectional Final at GHS. With the victory, Louisville improves to 19-6 on the year and advances to Districts for the 6th time in 7 years.
Morgan Harris (7-2) pitched a complete game 2-hit shutout and struck out 5 to lead the Lady Leopards. GlenOak led off the 3rd and 4th innings with singles, but neither Eagles runner advanced further than second base. Harris retired the final 12 GlenOak batters consecutively to end the contest.
Louisville broke the deadlock earlier in the sixth inning. Leandra Givens hit a 1-out infield single and then advanced to second when Kaycee Ollis grounded out to third base. Teagan Rice batted next and hit a sky high pop-up to shallow left-center field. The left fielder failed to locate the ball and the center fielder was unable to make a diving grab. The ball found the grass, Givens trotted home for the go-ahead run, and Rice stood on second with an RBI double.
That bloop double was Golden Eagles starter Olivia Otani’s only blemish. She pitched a complete game, gave up 1 run on 5 hits, and struck out 8 to lead GlenOak.
With the victory, the Leopards have now won 8 of their last 11 meetings against the Golden Eagles. Louisville still trails the all-time series 14-21, which includes a 6-10 mark on the road and 2-3 record against GlenOak in tournament play.
The Lady Leopards are now an even 31-31 all-time in tournament play. They will next play the top-seeded Perry Panthers in the DI Massillon District Semifinals on Monday, May 16 at 2:00 PM at Washington High School’s Eagles 190 Sports Complex.
UP NEXT: The Lady Leopards will next travel to Carrollton to take on the Warriors on Thursday, May 12 at 5:00 PM. A victory will give them at least a share of their 8th straight NBC Title.
